Fat & Furious at TDRA May 24 / 08
Our first race this year was at the season opener at the Terrace Drags. The weather was awesome. Sunny and in the 30's. Saturday morning we hit the 1/8 mile track for our first time trial pass. We laid down a disappointing 6.96 pass. We spun off the line and come to find after the pass that we had blown the rear oil seal in the engine. We were done for the weekend, but we stayed to watch some great racing and enjoyed the sunny weather.

The second race for us this year was at the 2nd Terrace Drags race. We awoke Saturday morning to rain and the race was called off that morning. We camped out Saturday hoping for better weather Sunday. There were a few tall tales and long winded stories told through out the day and evening, as the bench racing ran rampant over some beverages and barbecue. Sunday held out some promise for racing, as the skies somewhat broke up. We got one pass in, but due to cold temperatures and extremely high winds, the race was again call for the weekend.

Our first race of the year was in our home town of Houston BC. The weather was great with no rain and cooler temps. The races went very well and the lights were perfect. Hats off to the Houston crew for a well ran event. We ran in "Pro Outlaw" class this year in order to help make the class larger. Normally we run in the "Pro" class, as it is a 1/4 mile race compared  to "Pro Outlaw" class which runs a 1/8 mile race. We went to the finals on Saturday, taking second place to buddy Nuno Deteves who is also from Houston. Natalie if your reading this, yes you did start a tradition here last year with your ride down the 1/4 mile. As I took the new reporter from the "Houston Today" for a pass down the 1/4 mile.
Sunday we went a few rounds, but broke out against Norm Schwegler. The big story for us on Sunday was my son's racing debute. After just getting his driver's license the week before the 13th annual Houston Drags, and with zero racing exsperiance, he took second place in the "Sportsman" class. All the while still carrying out his duties with his brother Logan, as crew on my car also. He did very well and I'm very proud of him.

My crew chief and eldest son, now 17 years of age. Took 2nd place in Sportsman class at the 13th Annual Houston Drags. He had only just gotten his driver's license the week before. Even though he did not have any racing experience other than prepping and pushing Dad's car in the staging lanes, he went round after round and narrowly lost in the final by a .002 breakout.

We bought this 1979 Chevy pick-up for him to make his racing debut with at the 2009 Houston Drags. The pick-up has a fairly stock 350ci engine with a mildly prepped TH350 tranny and 2800 stall.

The 2010 race season was a slow, but fun year for us.  With many chores to complete around the homestead,  we only had the chance to compete in 3 events. The first event was the inaugural " Vanderhoof Drags" at the airport in Vanderhoof BC. It was a good event but we had some engine firing issues, which were further hampered by the way the stagging lanes were set up. We went several rounds but car trouble plagued us the first day and a red light took us out the second day. All in all it was a good event, a few hiccups, which were to be expected from a inaugural event.

Our second event was in Terrace BC at their annual "Hot August Nites" race. This was the first time I have made it to the Hot August Nites event and it was a BLAST! The first day we made it to the final round of Super Pro Class. We took second place after being schooled at the light by Chris Barnett. That evening the TDRA put on a barbecue that was second to none, followed by a live band. We enjoyed the festivities until the wee hours of the morning. The next day brought more drag racing for "King of the YXT". Despite feeling a little under the weather we scratched through the field of cars (some times due to more luck than skill, as I don't think I was the only one not 100% on their game ) and made it again to the final round. This time we managed to take home the win against Harold Dumont. A awesome weekend and we can hardly wait till the next Hot August race.

Our third and final event was at the 14th Annual Houston Drags. The three day event was well attended although there were several forest fires burning in the region. Friday night were fun runs and a chance to tune. Followed by the burnout contest.  A few awesome smoke shows that garnered a fly-by from one of the Forest fire attack choppers.  Saturdays racing brought "king of the Hill" and the gambler's races. We went several rounds, but ended up red lighting due to a failing transbrake...opppss! The highlight of Saturday was our grudge match race with Andrew Culkins (Team Dynamite) who was the guy who bought my old '81 Camaro race car. After several weeks of trash talk, he failed to beat us, and handed over the 60 pounder of Crown Royal.  Sunday's racing brought us more heart ache. With the transbrake hooped, I could not hold the car on the line with the brakes and red lit early in eliminations. We Had a lot of fun and it's always great to race at home. The Smokin Gun Drag race 1968 Kenworth also put on a awesome performance that we truly enjoyed..great guys!
